I love the endless choices that clay provides for personal expression. What cannot be imagined in clay? It can be painted on like a canvas; sculpted or hand built into almost any form; thrown to make a simple cup or an elegant vase; three dimensional forms are then imbued with the 4th dimension of color, depth, and texture. It is humbling but fascinating to pick one’s way through the infinity of possibilities. The shapes that interest me most come from nature: flowing rivers, unfurling ferns, mountains of rock, the curves of muscles, or undulating hills. The challenge for me is not to copy nature but to let its emotional content enter my work.
