Mondays

Color in the Garden with Carol Gouthro

Mondays 9am-noon   - $270

Build a totem, a lantern to light your garden path, a birdbath for the deck, planters for your favorite plants, or finials to accent your fence. Create botanically inspired colorful work using the glaze and terra sigillata traditions of Italy, Portugal and Mexico. Some previous clay experience is required in this class; however, Carol gives weekly demonstrations of handbuilding and glazing techniques and provides lots of visual aids.

Garden Totems (beginners welcome) with Carol Gouthro

What is that living in the garden? A wonderful, colorful creation, made by YOU! You’ll learn the basic hand building techniques using coils, slabs, drop molds, extrusions and more. With weekly demonstrations, we’ll put together our component parts, finishing, decorating and embellishing the surfaces as we go along. What a great way to start the Spring!

Learn wheelthrowing essentials in this thorough and engaging class. Nothing beats a solid grounding in the fundamentals of wedging, centering, opening, pulling, shaping, altering, trimming, and glazing. If you’ve always wanted to throw pots on the wheel, (or maybe you did it a million years ago in school), this is the chance you’ve been waiting for!

Tuesday Wheel with Damian Grava

Tuesdays 10am-1pm   - $270

In this all-levels class, the beginning students will have a chance to get the basics under their belts. The more seasoned students will have opportunity to explore altering techniques, surface options, and slab and coil constructions. Roll up your sleeves and hone your skills, all under the expert eye of a fine teacher. Special emphasis this quarter will be on surface techniques.

MOLD - O - RAMA with Jen Mills

Tuesdays 10am-1pm   - $270

Have you ever made a plaster mold and then said to yourself, "Now what?" This two part class will provide plenty of fodder for ways to make molds our friends. The first half will be learning the ins and outs of making molds; the second will be spent exploring fun ways we can use them!

Blurring the Lines with Geo Lastomirsky Back by popular demand!

So you want to make handbuilt pots this summer and you want to make sculpture? Geo will show you how to do both, and even help you make sense of combinations of the two. With clear and expert guidance, you’ll learn making and finishing skills, and find a way to explore new territory. Open to all levels of students.

Wednesday Clay: a handbuilding and sculpture class with Bethany Woll

Many of the students in this on-going and project-oriented class continue year after year; learning new skills, and helping each other tap into the wealth of wisdom their teacher has at her fingertips. This friendly group is always open to newcomers who want a supportive and engaging clay experience.

Wheelthrowing East to West with Rob Fornell

Japanese pottery traditions provide a deep taproot for many potters. Whatever your skill level, you will learn new approaches to clay which stress sound wheel basics, hand building and decorating techniques with an Asian bent. Learn how to personalize your work with local materials, (ash glazes, slips, etc.) and take advantage of Rob’s many resources and examples that he gleaned from living and working over seven years in Japan.

START UP : a six-week introduction to Clay, with Miki Willis

Stretch it, bend it, coil it, push it, pinch it, roll it…………Clay is an exciting art material because of its versatile abilities. Take this six-week beginner’s class to start having fun with clay. You’ll learn wheel basics, handbuilding techniques, and surface treatment options. Who knows, you might not want to stop!

Kid’s Classes

Everyone’s Welcome Clay Class- a kid’s class with Alicia Basinger for 5-9 year olds

7 Thursdays 3:30-4:30 pm - $75
6/12-7/24

In this fun class for beginners and continuing students, we’ll look at the world around us for inspiration to make fabulous summer projects. We’ll make wind-chimes based on things we see (or imagine!) in the lake. We’ll make animal-cups to sip our favorite lemonade or juice in, and rattles, bells and whistles to drive our families crazy! All materials are included. Dress to mess.

Second Time Around the Block- a continuing kid’s class with Alicia Basinger for 6-9 year olds

7 Thursdays 4:30-5:30pm - $75
6/12-7/24

If you’ve been in the kid’s classes here before, or have had clay experience in school, this class will build on those skills by tackling some larger and more complex projects. This term we’ll build a fantastical neighborhood. Everyone will create their own imaginative buildings, and then we’ll make up people, animals, vehicles and landscape to make it all come alive! At the end of the session we will arrange all of the parts to create the neighborhood, and take pictures to remember the fun. All materials provided. Bring an active imagination and clothes to get dirty.

Spin it Around: a wheel class for kids, 9-14 years old with Peter Avriett.

8 Tuesdays 5-6:30pm - $75
6/10-7/29

The wheel is a fun way to make pots. It isn’t easy, but they say that once you figure it out, it’s like riding a bike. Give it a try for a few weeks. You’ll make some interesting shapes, and you’ll learn something about form, decoration and design. All materials are provided; wear some clothes you don’t mind getting messy. Bring a towel.
